First Anniversary Trip ~ Stop Two: Grand Canyon

Woke up bright and early the next day with travel on our minds — to the Grand Canyon we drove!  We stopped off in Anthem for some fuel. Beautiful, friendly town, but as an East Coast girl, it’s always strange to see a sign saying the town was founded in 1999. But I digress…

I took my mother to the Grand Canyon when she flew out to visit me in 2002, but Chris had never been.  I warned him that while it was absolutely beautiful, there was only so much you could stare at it.  We drove along the Canyon, stopping at a few different viewing points, all which were spectacular.

As an aside, we saw this sign…

Don't Feed the Squirrels!

…and then saw a squirrel steal a woman’s sandwich!

We started the long journey back to Phoenix through Flagstaff, stopping for a late lunch at another Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives spot — Salsa Brava. The food was pretty tasty, but the salsa bar was out of this world!

By the time we made it back to Phoenix, we were spent and not hungry from the late lunch.  We enjoyed a bottle of Cakebread Chardonnay they were selling at the hotel and bunkered down for the night.  Next day’s itinerary — the long drive from Phoenix to Las Vegas!
